5 Driving School (“we”, “us”, “our”) provides automatic and manual driving lessons from our offices in Luton and Leyton, London E11, covering most of East London and surrounding areas. We sometimes meet learners at a nearby train station or test centre.
We are the “data controller” for the personal information described in this policy, which means we decide how and why your data is used.

Depending on how you use our website and services, we may collect:

- Lesson information: pick-up or meeting location (including train stations or test centres), lesson dates and times, availability, and your lesson and progress records.
- Licence information: provisional or full driving licence number and details needed to book your test, where applicable.

- Payment information: records of payments made to us. We do not store full card details.
- Messages: enquiries you send through our website forms, WhatsApp, phone, text or email.
- Website data: IP address, browser type, device, pages visited and how you reached our site, collected through cookies and similar technologies.

- Directly from you when you contact us, book a lesson or become a pupil.
- Through our website contact forms and WhatsApp chat button.

- From the DVSA when booking or managing tests on your behalf.
4. How we use your information and our legal basis
- Replying to enquiries and giving quotes: legitimate interests / steps before entering a contract.
- Booking, delivering and managing lessons: contract.
- Booking driving tests and tracking progress: contract.
- Taking payment and keeping financial records: contract and legal obligation.
- Sending reminders and lesson updates: contract / legitimate interests.
- Sending marketing messages: consent (you can withdraw it at any time).

5. WhatsApp and messaging
Our website has a WhatsApp chat button. If you click it, you leave our website and WhatsApp’s own terms and privacy policy apply to your use of that service. We will only use your phone number and messages to respond to you and manage your lessons. Please do not send sensitive information (such as bank details) through WhatsApp.
6. Cookies and advertising
Our website uses cookies to make the site work, understand how visitors use it, and measure the performance of our advertising (for example Google Ads and Google Analytics). Non-essential cookies are only set if you accept them. You can change your choices at any time using our cookie banner or your browser settings.

7. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal data. We only share it where necessary with:
- The DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) for test bookings.
- Service providers who help us run the business, such as our website host (Hostinger), WordPress plugins and form providers (such as WPForms), email, messaging and payment providers, and accounting software.
- Advertising and analytics providers such as Google.
- Insurers, regulators, the police or other authorities where we are legally required to, or to protect safety.
Where providers are based outside the UK, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place.
8. How long we keep your information
- Pupil records: while you are learning with us and for up to 6 years afterwards for insurance, tax and legal purposes.
- Enquiries that do not become lessons: up to 12 months.
- Marketing: until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent.
- Website data: in line with the retention periods of our analytics and cookie tools.
9. How we protect your information
We keep your information secure using password-protected devices and accounts, secure website hosting and limited access. Paper records, if any, are stored securely.
10. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

- Restrict or object to how we use your data.
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format.

11. Children and young learners
Our services are for people old enough to hold a provisional driving licence and take lessons. If a learner is under 18, we may speak to a parent or guardian about bookings and payments, with the learner’s knowledge.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please contact us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO):

Everything on this website either belongs to 5 Driving School or is used with permission.
